Do you live in Chicago? If so, you're in luck! I just restocked some beards and fun beardy goodies at Renegade Handmade in Chicago, a couple of the beards are even available on their website, if you don't want to buy from me directly :)

Sorry for the light posting this week, lots of last minute Halloween orders to fill. I'll be back next week with all sorts of fun stuff: a post about Movember, a new beard I've been waiting to debut, and details about upcoming craft fairs and winter craziness. Fun! In the meantime, enjoy this illustration of Karl Marx by Linda Vignato.

Nice beard brooches by Candy Bandits.

You asked, I deliver: SF Giants support beards now available in the shop.

This beard is almost too bold. Love that vibrant purple, though.

I really enjoy the use of these bearded Futurists in these illustrations (by Mark Weaver) for an article in GOOD Magazine called "Hurry up and Wait".

Sports Beards

Ok, I'll admit that I'm not usually all that tuned in to most sports. However, the recent surge in bearded sports stars has caught my interest, so I thought I'd share a couple sports beards with you all.

A couple people sent me this ESPN story last week, a slideshow of the best beards in sports. This quote about Randy Moss was one of my favorites:

"Charlie Casserly of CBS Sports reported that Tom Brady and Randy Moss got into an argument over their respective appearances. According to Casserly, Brady suggested Moss cut his beard to look more professional and Moss responded by telling Brady his long hair made him look like a girl."

The big news the past couple weeks has been the San Francisco Giants, and their bearded pitcher Brian Wilson. The rallying cry "Fear the Beard" is being chanted all over the bay area, and for good reason.

Tell me that's not a little terrifying. I dare you.

Read more about how "Brian Wilson's beard has a mystique all it's own", then pick up your own beard here, and support the Giants all the way to the beard hall of fame.

Super hairy fellas by Tim Enthoven.

Golden beard! Just added to my shop.

I bet this moustache would win the world championships, if it were real. I wonder if any of the competitors dye their whiskers...

Crazy blue moustache illustration from The Box Of Birds Shop.

I've got to get my hands on this Field Guide to Lumberjacks, especially the section, "Lumberjack vs. Hipster." They are so similar sometimes, I could use some help identifying the two.

Nice Van Gogh t-shirt! Loving the texture on this illustration, looks kind of like a woodcut.

I love this remorseful lumberjack. All beardos should be open with their emotions, don't you think? Illustration by Bekah Constance.

Real excited about being featured on Daily Candy today! Glad it's my young model friend's face instead of my own, he looks adorable as a garden gnome. Take a peek at the article, if you'd like, it's right here.

Beardy Halloween - Part 3

Still need more costume ideas? I live to serve:

Father Time

Steve Jobs (make a giant ipad out of cardboard!)

The Travelocity Gnome

Barry White

Papa Smurf

Silent Bob (get your best non-bearded friend to be Jay)

Chuck Norris

The Gorton's Fisherman

Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi

Paul Bunyan is a classic. Side note: I am still giggling at this photo of him getting his beard washed. Too weird.

Are you inspired yet? Anyone have a beardy costume that I missed?

Back to using my old camera. Someday I'll be able to afford an upgrade, but for now my 2003 Sony Powershot will have to do. Not that I have a ton of time to take photos, anyway. I'm busy sewing sewing sewing these days.

I've got some exciting news on Monday! As for this weekend, it's time to get busy making my Halloween costume. Have you bought your Halloween beard yet? Not much time left, you procrastinators, you. I hope to post another beardy costume guide this weekend, in case you need more ideas, so watch this space!

This bearded fellow would look great on your mantle.

This guy can grow a beard quick! Illustration by Kristina Collantes.

I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally typed "bear" when I meant "beard." Better than a bear with a beard: a beard made out of bears. Illustration by Sean Morris.

I am a big fan of Mythbusters, so I got pretty excited when I saw this clever t-shirt design. (Designed by Mattson Creative for Discovery Channel)

Why is it that fishermen always have the best beards? Illustration by Dan Bob Thompson.

I found these illustrations in Pam Wishbow's flickr last weekend, and I was completely blown away. Not all her illustrated characters have beards, but the ones that do are extra awesome. I especially love the bassist who strums with his beard hairs. Check out more of her work here.

Joe seems like a kindhearted thug. Illustrated by Richard Perez.

Beardy Halloween - Part two

Need more beardy Halloween costume ideas? No problem!

Conan O'Brien (from his beardy days)

Bill Murray as Steve Zissou

Not a full beard, but Mr. Monopoly's Moustache would make for a classy Halloween.

Vincent Van Gogh would be an artsy choice, as long as you could deal with people pestering you about your missing ear.

Get a group together and go as ZZ Top!

Samuel L. Jackson as Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction.

Walt Whitman sported a crazy long beard in his day. Grab a copy of Leaves of Grass so you'll be able to recite a poem or two.

And finally, a very contemporary choice: Joaquin Phoenix as he prepared for his role in I'm Still Here... such a weirdo.
