Check out this creepy beardo, drawn by Derek Nobbs. Love all the little details in this one, it's got a really great storytelling element to it.

I hand colored some of those prints I showed you yesterday, this one got a subtle mint green shirt.

Just added this one to the shop. Their shirts have been lovingly hand painted. Couldn't decide whether to dress them in identical suits, but ultimately decided that twins can indeed have their own sense of style.

And then there's this guy... what a nice beard!

Timber Preservation Society makes some pretty awesome beardy t-shirts, like this one, above, and another that celebrates beardy twins. I need to make friends with this guy, we have such similar taste!

Yet another beard merit badge! I'm making a bunch of these to bring to summer craft fairs (can you believe it's time to start getting ready for those??) I realized that actual merit badges are mostly round, rather than the other badge shape I'd been making... not that I was really going for authenticity, but still, worth noting. This project has been great for using up some of my smaller felt pieces, I've got a ton of extra felt left over from beard making that I'll be using for new projects.

Re-took some photos of the honey beard, I still love this color.

Printed these last night, I'll be hand painting some of them this afternoon!

Lovely stationary, designed by Cortney Cassidy.

Purple beard! I think I've pretty much gone around the whole color wheel at this point... any special color requests?

Friday, April 23, 2010

Have I shown you this beard yet? I've had it stored away for a while, so I am thinking forgot to show you all this lovely creation. My camera is complete crap, so the photo isn't amazing, but I'm hoping to get some better pictures and get this beard into the shop soon!

Finally added a beard merit badge to the shop! For being "the beard lady," I've been doing way too much moustache stuff lately. Time to get back to my roots... these little felt badges should do the trick.

Burt's Beards

I've been so excited to tell you guys about this collaboration I did with Burt's Bees. For their Earth Day celebration in NYC today, they are dressing up to match their founder, Burt Shavitz, who is an a great model for anyone looking to live more sustainably. I made them a bunch of "Burt's beards" to wear! The Burt's Bees crew will be in Times Square today, making smoothies on bike-powered blenders, and giving out samples of their natural, earth-friendly beauty products. Go check it out if you live in New York!

Check out these sweet bandanas!

If you're not in New York, you can "find your inner Burt" on the Burt's Bees website. It's a fun app where you can get beardy like Burt by using your webcam. This was such a fun project to work on, I think you guys will get a kick out of the whole thing.

Saw this lovely print in person this weekend, it's a winner. Illustration by Rachel Caldwell (it will be on display at the Keep Portland Beard show, too!) Check out this other beard-tastic illustration she made as well:

Another small silkscreen print I made for the Keep Portland Beard show. I love this guy's weird tattoos, I had a lot of fun thinking up goofy things to tattoo him with. I will put a few of these up in the shop soon, in case anyone needs a small piece of art to adorn their home.

Funny little moustache faces from blancucha.

Another nice beardo illustration, this time from Evgenia Barinova. It looks like it will be made into a t-shirt soon, too!

Jana Kleineberg will create a custom portrait of you with the facial hair of your choice! Fun!

Another version of the sailor print, this one will be up at the Keep Portland Beard show this week!

A chart measuring the trustworthiness of beards! Created by Matt McInerney, as a response to this post from Good Magazine. Best viewed in it's full scale here. (Thanks to Mandi for sending this my way!)

New moustache man print! Not sure which tie I like better. These are silkscreens with gouache coloring; I like being able to paint in the color details and make them all a little different. Should be available in my shop soon!

Found on Yahoo News, the first facial hair tax break I've ever heard of... Read the full article here, and learn more about the group promoting the tax break for moustaches, the American Mustache Institute(which sadly uses the inferior spelling of moustache... too bad.)

Some new bearded family photos! I'm loving the baby beard, I think I'll be doing a few more of those soon.

I am going to try to be more creative when posing for my beardy mugshots, I realize they are always so similar. Don't judge, I never claimed to be a model.

In other news, I have started making the "mermaid beards" with a different yarn, since they stopped making the kind I was using for this beard. It's more mint colored than seafoam, but I still really like it. Such a strange shade for a beard.

Oh, and I changed the packaging for the merit badge pins. Not that anyone really cares besides me, but broadcasting non-vital information is the primary reason I have a blog to begin with. Plus, look at those cute little vines! Can't resist it.

I can't believe I haven't mentioned this yet, but all you Portland beardos and art lovers are in for a special treat later this month! Mike Buchino of Beard Revue is guest curating a show at Tribute Gallery later this month, called "Keep Portland Beard." Lots of awesome artists are contributing work for the show, including yours truly. So mark your calenders people: April 24th at 8pm. 328 NW Broadway # 117. It's gonna be a showstopper, so don't miss it! Card above by the lovely Kyle Durrie of Power and Light Press.

p.s.: i'll be sharing a few of my new prints for this show soon. keep your eyes peeled!

Added another merit badge to the shop! I'll be adding many more now that I've finally settled on how to package them. I love this idea of facial hair achievement, I keep wondering what point you have to get to with your beard or moustache to earn the merit badge. Maybe effort is more important than the outcome?

Another fun illustration from Mafa of pink rain.
