In honor of the World Beard and Moustache Championships, I want to share with you the work of Nick Morley, a quite talented printmaker! He created a whole series of prints depicting the beardy competitors that some of you may already be familiar with.

Like this one, of Elmar Weiser, famous competitor in the Full Beard - Freestyle category!
Awesome, right? Check out more of Mr. Morley's work on his flickr, linocutboy.

Two handpainted variations of a screenprint I made this weekend... Thinking of titling it "our holy lady of the beard", or something like that :)

Weirdly, my scanner couldn't handle the neon orange details in the first one. They turned out pink! Hoping to get a chance to post a photo of the true colors later, they are quite vibrant.

Some new additions to the family!

Here are some new bearded family portraits! They'll be up in my Etsy shop sometime this weekend.

Look at this adorable little guy! Found him on O!Rachew!'s Flickr.

Jack Passion, contender for gold at the World Beard and Moustache Championships this week, was featured in an article in the LA Times today! I was featured on their blog recently, but Jack was on the FRONT PAGE, column one. Sheesh. I knew him in college, which, to date, is my biggest brush with beard fame. What a guy.

You can check out all the LA Times coverage of beard related events on their website.

Eureka!

I had a small eureka moment this morning. FYI, there will be some very exciting longer beards showing up in my shop in the next couple weeks. I'll debut them here first, of course! You loyal readers will always get first peek.
The illustration is by the talented Jessica Hische. Check out her other amazing work on her website!

Don't forget to follow Buchino's coverage of the Beard and Moustache Championships over on Beard Revue!

Small beards and moustaches.

Have you been introduced to the delightful works of Sarah Neuburger, aka The Small Object? No? Well! Let me show you some of her hairier projects:

She makes the loveliest wedding cake toppers, recently with added facial hair.

And check out these excellent moustache cupcake decorations! Perfect for that moustache party you've been dying to have.

kitty stache. adorable.

Did I really never show you this?

I found this hilarious beardy dude last December, and must have forgotten to show him to all of you! Check out ain't life grand for more hilarious illustrations. Here's another fun one:

This photo is so crazy! I can't believe they have a somewhat scientific method of measuring beard length. This photo was from the International German Beard Championships in Schluchsee, Germany in March. Found on the Time website (it was their pick of the week!)

Beards on the runway

I've noticed that beards are becoming more fashionable lately... At least, the Australian designers behind Romance is Born seem to think so! Check out their latest runway show for Spring 09.

What a crazy, nautically themed, extravaganza! Wish I could have been there. Would love to team up with these kids in the future, maybe to create a collection around bearded heroes of yesteryear.
You can read more about the collection on the Fader website.

beard print!

I forgot to tell you this before, but in case you want the very last copy of my grassy beard print, it's listed in my Etsy shop! It's hand printed from stone, one of only six prints I made. Considering one copy is in my mom's house, and another is hidden away in my portfolio, you could be one of only four other people to own this beardy delight :)

Did I tell you I was thinking about applying to sell my beardy goods at Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco this summer? Well, I got in! I'm really thrilled, and will be working like mad to get things ready before July. Busy, busy, busy, as usual. You can find all the details on their website, plus, I'll blog a reminder as we get closer to the fair.

I'm so excited, there are going to be so many artists there who I have been dying to meet. Can't wait.

Here's a great bearded fellow I found over on the De la maison blog (which I can only partially read, since four years of high school french actually equals zero understanding of the language).

Congrats to Pang, who won the beard giveaway when her number was picked by random.org! I'll post a photo of her dream beard once it's all finished! Thanks to everyone who entered, it was really inspirational to hear all about your dream beards.

Beard find of the week!

Anke Weckmann is selling bearded brooches over on her Etsy shop! For just $6.50 (what??? SO CHEAP!) you can be the proud owner of the beardiest brooch I've ever seen. Plus, you'll receive a bonus print! Limited edition, so go grab one right now!

finally, a GIVEAWAY!

So, fyi, it's Moustache May. Is anyone else sick of moustaches getting all the credit?? Think about it: moustaches are lonely little creatures, just sitting there on your upper lip with no one to talk to but your nose (which is full of snot), and your mouth (which is often busy talking to other people). I propose, what's a good moustache without a hefty beard to keep it company?

In the spirit of honoring the beard's dedication to it's faithful companion 'stache, I am doing my first beard giveaway. A custom beard will go to one of you lovely blog readers! Just post a comment telling me what your dream beard looks like (with your name and email!), and on Monday I'll pick a winner at random.

These are some of my favorite beards, for inspiration. Good luck!

Such a great weekend. Busy, but great. I feel as happy as this guy, who has the longest beard I've ever seen. I mean, he's not smiling, but how could you not be excited about that mega beard??

Found his photo on ffffound.com, which only provided the jpeg, no info on who this amazing man might be.

Anyway, how was your weekend? Any good beard stories you want to share?

My latest beard art find, by the talented Katie Vernon. (Sorry it's so small. Had to rob the thumbnail from Artstream Studios' page for the Incredible Print Show which opens tomorrow!)

Hilarious.
