Another ffffound find. I have a love/hate relationship with that website, since people often post images without linking to the creator of the work... so frustrating. But this beardy fellow is worth the frustration.

As promised, here's the new beard I debuted in my shop today! I'm calling it "The Five-o-clock Shadow". I wanted to include a sightly more affordable beard in the shop, and this one seems to fit the bill! Here's hoping you all dig it.

Creating the listing for this one was more difficult that usual. I got kinda goofy at the end, and had to cut out a few lines about how this beard will make your life 10 times better. I think I wrote something like, "Potential side effects of wearing this beard: free drinks, thumbs up in the grocery store checkout line, finding twenty dollar bills in old pants pockets, etc.

Also, I deliberated for a full five minutes about whether to include this photo in the listing. It's helpful to see how the sides look, but my ear looks... weird. It occurs to me that I should worry less about how my ear looks, and worry more about the potential repercussions of posting photos of myself in beards on the internet. Maybe this is why I'm not having much luck finding jobs?

Kitty Beard

I was going to post about a new item I've been working on, something I hope you'll all be excited about... but somehow the day is over, and I never took any photos! Look forward to an awesome update tomorrow, and in the meantime, enjoy this quite beardy fellow and his kitty friend (found on ffffound.com a while ago).

Earlier this week, I made a reproduction of the first beard I ever made: the rainbow beard! It's so much fun to wear (and to make), so I've added a listing for it in my shop.

This is the beard that I featured in my first beard blog post. Crazy to think I've been blogging about beards for almost seven months!

My good friend Mackenzie sent me this video earlier this week. Ridiculous dialogue, Johannes Brahms, and beards... who could ask for more from a PSA?

Hey all you crafty readers! Look what I found on Etsy this morning! Moustache print fabric!! I can't think of what to make with it, but I'm sure you guys are clever enough to find a project for it :) You can find the fabric in SewBettie's Etsy shop.

Custom Beards, Take Two.

Bored by the natural beard colors I offered in my last round of custom beards? Well, you're in luck. I just put up a listing for some more vibrant color choices in my shop!

I love that pea soup color. It's so delightfully gross. I might have to make another one of those for myself later this week.

Fluffy and white

Just posted this fluffy white beard in my shop:

Calling it the "recluse beard," mainly because I think it's a close approximation to one of my idols' beards, Edward Gorey. You may remember I wrote a short review of Gorey's beard for Beard Revue, and my love for this beard has not waned since then. Just look at it!

Amazing. Plus, he loved his cats, as shown by this amazing photo below.

Here's hoping the recluse beard lives up to the original!

Beards in Wondermountain

I really wish I could figure out how to add a poll to a single post on blogger. It seems I can only have a poll on the sidebar, but I'd love to get an opinion on something.

This lovely painting was made by the oh so talented Lisa Congdon. It's part of her "Life in Wondermountain" series, which was on display at Paper Boats Gallery in Milwaukee last December. There are several portraits which feature bearded men, but this one in particular got me thinking. My question is: does this guy's facial hair qualify as a beard, or is it a glorified soul patch? I'm currently leaning towards soul patch, since the mustache seems to be pulling most of the weight in this guy's facial hair relationship.
Either way, check out more of her amazing work from this show on Ms. Congdon's website, and if you're feeling flush with cash from your tax refund (i wish.), buy something from her Etsy shop! Here are a couple more of my favorites from the show.

In an attempt to make it more widely known that I am happy to make custom beards, I put up a listing on Etsy today for a custom color beard. Do you like one of the lovely natural colors below? Well, I'll make you a beard in whatever color you like! There's a reason I named my beard shop "I made YOU a beard".

I'm thinking of setting up another listing like this one for fancier colors, so if you've got dyed green hair and are feeling left out, never fear.

I'd been debating whether or not I wanted to post about this... after all, the monkey only has a mustache, not a full beard! But seriously, look at that face. I kept smiling every time I saw him on my desktop, so I thought it best to share him with all of you.

Best sock monkey ever, made by Black Bird Fashion on Etsy.

Another great drawing from Marc Johns:

His sense of humor is just my speed. All his work makes me chuckle. You'll soon be able to buy a whole book of his work, called Serious Drawings. Too perfect. Here's a sneak peek at one of the drawings included in the book, another completely ridiculous idea (which is why I love it).

My face on the sidewalk!

Michael at Beard Revue let me know that my face is on the Portland Mercury boxes in conjunction with the Handmade Nation article! I have only been taking short walks around the neighborhood this week, so I didn't see any in person. I love that my face is currently floating eerily over the sidewalks all over Portland this week...

I'm having a sale on many of my beardy paintings in my Etsy shop! I am hoping to sell a few extra items this month, since apparently having your appendix removed isn't free. Who knew?! I'll be listing new items soon, as well, so keep your eyes on the shop!

Slow Going.

Just wanted to let potential buyers know that I am going to be shipping things out a little slower than usual this week. Just got home today from my appendectomy, a frustrating surprise over the weekend. Please forgive the slightly slower shipping, and potentially lighter posting (depending on how bored I am...) this week as I recuperate.

In the meantime, here are some lovely spiral notebooks from Etsy seller Lauren Minco. The painting at the beginning of this post is also made by her. She's created a lovely series of spiral bound notebooks, with her paintings as the covers. Loving the bearded musicians on the covers of these two:

Can you spot my bearded face in this week's edition of the Portland Mercury?? My beard was featured as an example of local craftiness for an article celebrating the opening of Handmade Nation, a film by the talented Faythe Levine (you can read the full article here). Wish I could go to the opening night screening, but tickets have been sold out since I first heard about it :( I'm sure it will be amazing.
