"i like that moustache, it's got spirit"

Had to work on this beard a little more than the others. I somehow cut the main pattern wrong, and so not only was it too long and wide, but the mouth hole is tiny! I managed to cut it down a bit after the fact, but there isn't much to be done about the lip area. Oh well! You'll have to take your beard off before you eat... probably a good idea anyway.

ps: I needed to get my bangs trimmed last week, and more so now. I wish I was brave enough to just chop at them myself...

i don't have a halloween costume!

I neglected to make myself a costume this year, thinking I would be working. Now I've got the day off, and no costume to run around in. I am thinking of ways to improvise, and use a beard as part of a costume. Maybe I could make a fuzzy white beard and a little pointy red hat, and be a garden gnome...

Anyway, here's a hint about what I've been working on the past couple days:

Lots going on, as usual.

And hey, for those of you sick of hearing about the election, I'm right there with ya. There wasn't even one bearded candidate this year! These guys really want to see a bearded president... maybe in 2012 I'll send one of mine to whichever candidate (male or female) I support... That would guarentee a win better than any attack ad, right??

just in case you thought i was kidding.

Me. Asleep. In a beard.

I'm fully awake now, after a bunch of excited emails alerted me to the fact that I was on the front page of Etsy.com earlier tonight! I was thrilled to receive so much positive feedback at once, and I want to thank all the people who contacted me with kind words and positive feedback. I love that people are as excited about the beards as I am!

scott's beard 2.0

So, I remade a beard you may have seen earlier. The original was modeled after my friend Scott's real beard. This 2.0 version is a bit larger than the first... puffier, I suppose. It's not as angular as in the picture above, but I look like I'm half asleep in most of the photos I took of it today, and this is pretty much the only bearable one.

I also finished a new white beard, to replace the one that sold on etsy this week! I also started a new beard inspired by the fall trees. Like this one, which is looking pretty fantastic these days:

Lovely, right?

The beard is a little wild looking so far, but I think the right person could pull it off nicely.

mossy goodness

Made a nice fluffy moss beard this week. I was inspired by how green our yard has stayed, despite the fact that every other tree on our block is changing colors. My mom insists it has to do with microclimates... not that I know what microclimates are... something like "we live across the street from a dense, foresty park, and it keeps our yard cooler and darker than the rest. Hmm. Sounds plausible, right?

Anyway, it's up for sale on my etsy page. In case you've forgotten, that's imadeyouabeard.etsy.com My etsy shop is giving me the creeps these days... it's like the brady bunch tiling, only with just my face.

yes yes!

Just noticed that I was featured over on the Gold School blog! Neat! Go check out Gold School and see the other golden items featured with my beard!

playtime in the new beard

Decided to take the new beard out for a test drive, just to see how it holds up during more active situations. Needless to say, it passed my rigorous jumping trials.

Look at that beautiful performance! So glowy!

I even got my mom into the beard, and it only accentuated her zen-like calm as she jumped!

I think the beard passed with flying colors. It stays in place, and maybe even accentuates your athletic side.

abominable snowman!!

my newest beard:

It reminds me so strongly of this guy:

This is my first official winter beard. I think I might be getting ahead of myself... I haven't made all my fall beards yet!

interview on celestefrittata!

Chiara from celestefrittata featured me on her blog! You can view the short interview here.

Isn't her work lovely? You can check out her handmade books and wonderful hand printed bags at celestefrittata.etsy.com

busy busy busy

This week, I finally got my act together and set up my Etsy shop! Check out i made you a beard on Etsy. To get things ready, I took photos of my newest beards:

I tried to show the back of the beards, too, to show that they are nice and cozy on the inside.

Here's one of my favorites so far, a very manly beard, indeed.

I swear I'm smiling under there. The beard makes me look extra serious.

innovation in beard making

I have been brainstorming ways to make the beard construction process more efficient, since almost all the beards so far have been completely hand sewn. I realized yesterday while talking with Laura that I might be able to use my machine to make the yarn beards. So now I'm trying it out, and I think it's working!

I am getting my Etsy shop set up this week. My banner looks kinda weird, and I have to take photos of the things I have ready to sell. Busy busy busy.

beard related

I really want to be posting more often, but as you may have guessed, these projects take time! A new beard is coming very soon, but until then, I thought I would share a link to one of my favorite beard related articles on the web. It's called feline reactions to beards, and I'm pretty sure it's not real, but would be a good test to try out on your own, while wearing a beard I made for you.

beard companion

So, I know they aren't beards, but I had some leftover bits of felt from recent beard projects, and decided to make these:

I would argue that a moustache is really a major part of a proper beard, a faithful companion you might say. Needless to say, these little guys are fun to have around. They keep your upper lip warm and happy.

bluebeard

This is my friend Misha. I made her a beard for and Edward Gorey fashion show. Her hair was blue back then.

This photo is blurry! Blurbeard!

new

I finished a new beard yesterday. It's much more tailored than the others. I have been practicing different finishing techniques to make them more comfortable to wear.

I look slightly creepy in this photo.

I haven't gotten a chance to photograph Misha in her beard yet, but it's pretty nice. It was better when she had matching blue hair though... I'll try to get a photo of that up soon.
